The artistic merit of this "spatial nothingness exoskeleton" technique is that the three dimensional Pig exists as space within the interwoven two dimensional surface. The Pig is not the metal flowers (which exist independently as design objects in their own right). The Pig is there, but ironically, it is also not there. The theoretical question therefore is - can actual empty space be the subject of art? In this case the answer is yes.
