Pompano Beach Steelhead

Pompano Beach, FL

5' 6" tall. Recycled steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper. 2017

Steelhead has been selected for the world’s largest — and most unusual — art exhibit being planned for Pompano Beach in fall 2017. A variation of the original Cow Parade, Pompano Beach, Florida is organizing a city wide exhibition and auction.

The fiberglass fish will be used as a canvas by 12 artists chosen by the selection committee and installed in various locations throughout the City. Each of the Painted Pompano sculptures will be individualized by artists in a variety of styles and finishes.

My method of creating a unique fish will be to add metal pieces to the surface of the mold as a "skin" that completely covers the original form. Think of it as a thin suit of armor. The result will be a metal assemblage sculpture that uses the fiberglass fish form as a supporting armature.

The effect will be spectacular and dramatic. The piece will have a distinctive metallic sheen, being completely different from the painted fish.

Cow Parade is an international public art fundraiser that has been staged in more than 75 cities and drawn in more than 250 million spectators, according to organizers.
