The rhinoceros is a worldwide symbol of endangered megafauna. People and rhinos prefer similar habitat, but don't mix very well, which is one reason rhinos are nearly extinct. Since the 19th century, they have been shot for sport, and for their horns—used in Asia for folk remedies and in Yemen for dagger handles.
